Say sheesh! Best Buy digital photo frame harbors virus

Talk about spoiled cheese.

A digital picture frame made by a gadget brand belonging to Best Buy is thought to carry a virus, and the big-box retailer is warning owners to contact customer service for instructions.

The frames at issue are 10.4-inch in diameter and made by Insignia. They carry the model number NS-DPF-10A, and according to the warning posted by Best Buy on its Insignia site, the virus slipped in during manufacturing.

But the company did not explain how that happened.

Best Buy says the frames were pulled from stores and retail websites as soon as it knew of the problem, but some still made it to the public. Customers who believe they have one should call the Insignia customer care line at 1-877-467-4289.

The virus wasn't described, but Best Buy insists that it's old and can be removed with current, up-to-date antivirus software.

Are Designers The Enemy Of Design?

Skip your next trip to Milan or Miami and head, instead, for the reservation. Visit the Navajo and Hopi, the Pueblo Indians, the Souix and the Cheyenne. These folks lived a sustainable lifestyle long before it became both fashionable and necessary. There's a lot left to their eco-culture. Learn from them—their contemporary artists in weaving, pottery, painting and jewelry are among the most innovative and creative in the world. Take the Navajo Hogan, a simple six-sided building. Hogans sit lightly on the land—no 10,000 or 20,000 square foot McMansions for the Navajo. Hogan are easy to assemble, use little energy to keep people warm, and have strong spiritual meaning to the families who inhabit them. Today's modern hogans are trailors and they are all over the rez. Now think about trailors.

CBA leads way on rates rise

From Friday, the bank's standard variable home loan rate will go up 0.3 per cent to 8.97 per cent. Business loan rates will also increase by 0.3 per cent.

Not only has Australia's biggest home lender passed on in full yesterday's adjustment to rates by the Reserve Bank, but it is also recouping more of the additional costs imposed by the global credit market problems.

The bank says it had believed wholesale funding rates would ease, but it says regrettably that has not happened.

The other three big banks say their rates remain under review.

Federal Treasurer Wayne Swan has told Radio 2SM the Commonwealth Bank's decision will put many families under even more pressure.

"I think the Commonwealth Bank has a lot of explaining to do," he said.

Russell Brand referring to the Queen and her naughty bits

Life Support is a conventional drama looking at the HIV/AIDS crisis facing America's Black community. The film star Queen Latifah as a reformed crack addict and HIV sufferer who's making amends with her family and herself by running for a HIV outreach centre.

Nelson George's social cause soap was based on his HIV positive sister Andrea Williams and has a simple message – denial isn't an option. This is rammed home hard as every character has a link to the virus and many scenes take place in the support group where women discuss coping with day to day living, such as how to tell a new partner you're positive and the benefits of condoms for girls.

The female centric melodrama revolves around Latifah's Ana, a hard nose ‘my way or the highway' type, desperate to regain the love of the teenage daughter Kelly (Rachel Nicks) she neglected when she was a user.

Economic slowdown beginning to look like deja vu, group says

The figures, in conjunction with downbeat news about manufacturing and a murky employment picture, sent the Dow Jones industrial average down more than 140 points Thursday as investors feared the onset of a recession. Broader indexes also closed lower.Markets had been hoping for economic data to show the economy wasn't shrinking, but signaling enough weakness to spur the Federal Reserve to again slash interest rates in March. Some dour news came from the Philadelphia Federal Reserve, which reported a much lower-than-expected manufacturing index for February. While the Labor Department reported a drop in the number of newly laid-off workers filing claims for unemployment benefits, it was seen as only a temporary improvement. Analysts noted that claims offices in California were closed for a day last week for a state holiday, giving laid-off workers less time to file claims. The four-week average for claims, which gives a better picture of labor market trends, rose to 360,500 - the highest level since claims spiked in October 2005.The Conference Board report came a day after the Federal Reserve released its updated forecast for slower economic growth, higher unemployment and higher inflation.
